Summary

Well, my last blog.... for now!

The past few months i have started a journey to expand my creativeness. I must say, i finally figured out in which parts i'm good and in which parts i still have to develop myself, or even quit doing it.

To summarize it:

I started drawing. I costed me a lot of effort, but i managed to draw a nice cat. Unfortunately i ruined it by pushing it too far and use watercolor to color it. The result: very nice piece of painting, perfect for the bin.

I went to museums, in which i figured out that i really like the old artworks, instead of the new, modern pieces. I always look for some romantic feeling in an artwork. Modernism is often very cold and definitely not romantic.

Then i started to use Photoshop. Finally something i really like doing, and guess what.. i seem to be good at it as well!

For now my creative journey ends with the feeling that i learned a lot about myself. I need to develop myself with Photoshop and i HAVE to quit using watercolor. I only allow myself using it when i am not proud of a drawing that i made.

I hope you liked reading my blog about my journey to expand my creativeness.

My first compliment!

Since I work on this project for several municipalities in Holland, I started to use Photoshop a lot to visualise the written parts.
The other day, when we had an appointment with the commissioning clients, and they asked us where we found the images used. I answered that i made them myself. They did not believe me, but it is true!
The complimented me with the images and the logo that i made for them.

I cannot explain how happy i am with this compliment. Right before i start graduating, i discovered where my strengths lie. Although i think that there is much to learn, it is something that i can use the rest of my life.
I do think i have to keep myself updated about all Adobe programs, since technology is changing every day. But for now.. i can use it for my thesis, so i can visualize that as well.

Project 'Historische Watertuin'

For the differentiation minor i am currently following - City Marketing - me and my project group are busy with developing campaign concepts.
For this project i am creating visual concepts with Photoshop which is really nice and relaxing work. Next to that, last week's Monday, we presented the concepts for our commissioning clients. They thought we copied and pasted the images from Google. I'll show you some work:

Graduation at Hutspot!

Since i started writing this blog for the magazine of the minor Creative industries i figured out that i am really interested in the creative world. Not really in a way to make art myself (although that is a very relaxing activity) but more the organising and management side of the business.
I had to find a place to graduate. There were very specific requirements from school, but i also set some requirements for myself, which made it even harder to find a business.

Eventually i figured out that it was also possible to graduate at a shop, which broadened my options.
I wrote a letter to Hutspot Amsterdam and i got invited for an introduction meeting with one of the owners. It was a very nice meeting and he told me i was very welcome!

Hutspot is a concept store, founded in december 2012 at the van Woustraat in Amsterdam. Since december 2013 they have a second store at the Rozengracht. They sell items made by young designers and artists, from bags to lamps. At the van Woustraat they also opened a barbershop in their store.
The team of Hutspot is very ambitious and successful. I am looking forward to write my thesis for them, and hopefully i graduate!

Discovery of Pinterest

Although i got introduced with Pinterest a long time ago, i finally discovered its magic.
For me Pinterest is a form of relaxation. Whenever i feel stressed out or i feel like looking at nice pictures i start up my Pinterest account and i start searching for the nicest and most beautiful pictures on this amazing site.

At the moment i have 10 boards and 160 pins on Pinterest.

I don't have a particular theme on my personal Pinterest site, but i pin the things that appeal to me.
Sometimes, when i feel creative, i look for DIY's. People post very nice tips to create the most beautiful things out of nothing, such as birthday decoration, practical storage options but also nice recipes for salad dressings or party dip.

Pinterest is my new addiction and it definitly stimulates my creativeness.

BECOMING A PAINTER... OR NOT...

The first craft I want to focus on is drawing and painting. This, because I already had paper, a pencil and watercolors in my house. What if it seems that i am really good in painting? Of course I will immediately change my broadening journey into an in-dept journey!

I started to collect the resources and the accessories that i needed.

So... the first four things were not too hard to collect, but step 5 took me some time.
While I was thinking of something to draw my cat was walking dapper over the empty paper. I figured that she would be an excellent candidate to become my muze, so I started to draw her on the paper.
With some time and an eraser I eventually managed to get a pretty nice picture of a cat on the paper. Wow.. was it my lack of patience when I thought I coulnd't draw, or is this just luck?
Either way, I am certainly proud of the drawn result.

After i had been watching my drawing proudly for hours I decided that I wanted to finish the drawing with the watercolor. I already visioned my artwork framed on the wall in my living room, and everybody who was visiting me was admiring my work. With courage i grabbed a glass of water for the brushes and i opened my box of watercolor, which i purchased at the Intertoys. I sat behind my pride and than the real problems started; I had to think of a suitable color for my masterpiece. And not only the color turned out to be a problem, I also had to figure out how I would paint the drawing. Shall I color the drawing just as a coloring page, or shall I make a big, flat, a-symmetrical application, so it becomes really artfully? Great god, maybe I should take a little more time to think about this..
The next day I decided what to do with my masterpiece and the watercolor. I also knew what color I was going to use; pink was the color. I was sure it had to be pink. Bravely I picked up my brush, moistened it slightly and baptized him in the pink paint. The first pink spot was a fact, but I was certainly not happy. It suddenly became a horrible saccharine painting. Then i decided it should be green. Yes, green it will be! I cleaned my brush and moistened him again with some water and baptized it in the green paint this time. While the pink paint was not dry yet, I started to work with the green color. It became a bit of a grubby color. I decided to use more water, not knowing that this paper could not bear so much moisture. The green paint was now mixed with pieces of paper in a granular form. I saw my dream go up in smoke. That was my masterpiece. Ruined by myself.

Watercolor is not really my cup of tea. I am afraid I have to start looking for another form of creativity.
